What line spacing should I use?

8 mm is a comfortable default for most adult handwriting. Go 6–7 mm for dense notes, or 10–12 mm for younger writers.

Can I add a left margin rule?

Turn on the left rule and set the gutter (try 20–25 mm) if you want a binding edge or a strip for comments.
