How the Cornell method works

During class, write only in the notes column. Later, pull keywords and questions into the cue column. Cover the notes and quiz yourself. Finish with a short summary. Walkthrough: How to use Cornell notes.

If you just need ruling, use lined paper. For a weekly class grid, grab a timetable.

FAQ

What goes in each column?

Notes on the right during class. Cues and questions on the left when you review. A few sentences in the summary at the bottom.

Can I change the column widths?

Yes. Defaults are about 30% cue, 60% notes, and 10% summary height. Tweak them and the labels to match how you study.
