What grid size is standard for school math?

5 mm is the usual classroom grid. For axis sketches, 10 mm with bold every 5 lines is easier to count.

How is this different from coordinate paper?

Graph paper is a plain grid. Coordinate paper adds x/y axes and optional tick numbers for plotting functions.
