How to Print Staff Paper (Blank Manuscript Paper)

You don’t need a dedicated manuscript pad for sight-singing, dictation, or a quick melody. A well-spaced blank staff sheet from a regular printer is enough — as long as the five lines are even and there’s room for stems, lyrics, or chord symbols.

How many staves per page

Portrait A4 or Letter usually holds 8–12 systems. Use fewer (and a larger gap) for kids or lyrics between staves. Twelve is fine for a single-line draft. The distance between the five lines themselves (about 2 mm here) shouldn’t get so tight that noteheads collide.

Leave clefs and time signatures off the print. Add them by hand so you’re not stuck in treble for a bass-clef exercise.

Match A4 or Letter to the tray
Actual size — never Fit to page
If the lines look faint, bump them to a mid gray or 1 pt

Need lyrics? Push the gap between systems to 16–20 mm. For spoken notes instead of pitches, lined paper is less fuss. For diagrams, use graph paper.

Print a stack once and keep it in a folder. It’s faster than ruling five lines by hand, and it makes a decent classroom worksheet.
